Lisa Gillespie is an ASID Certified interior designer with over 20 years of experience, and a former professional chef. Her culinary experience began after completing her undergraduate degree from Towson State University. In 1989 she began training at the Culinary School of Washington. Soon after she landed a position at the prestigious Capitol Hill four-star restaurant Adirondackâ€™s, created by California restaurateur and food visionary Michael McCarty, of the eponymous Michaelâ€™s in Santa Monica and New York. Under the direction of CIA and Cordon Bleu trained chefs, Lisa honed her skills and then went on to become a Sous Chef Tournant, and then later Executive Sous Chef in Baltimore with the Capitol Management Corporation.
With a passion for food, but also a desire to explore other career options, Lisa started her own catering business while attending the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore for graduate studies in Interior Architecture. In 1997 she transferred her graduate studies to New England to study at the Boston Architectural College in Boston MA. She also began a decorative painting business completing a large portfolio of projects ranging from both historic residences to professional executive suites. She went on to head the interior design department at Catalano Architects in Boston, a high-end residential architectural firm serving Greater New England. Her many projects include award winning and published designs. She eventually opened Lisa Gillespie Designs and has since designed a multitude of residential and commercial projects throughout Boston, Baltimore, New York and the greater metro DC area.
Lisa moved back to Maryland in 2005 and continues to work as a professional interior designer. As a throwback to her decorative painting days, Lisa created â€œThe Treasure Nestâ€, a local vintage furniture and artisan painting business. She keeps her hand in the culinary arena by teaching private cooking classes and occasional guest chef stints at local restaurants and culinary venues
